For me, making a place mat is like a drawing. Linen is my canvas and colorful fabrics and thread are my paint. I can draw anything I imagine.
And also, a place mat is like a writing a letter to me. I try to add a sweet little message so whomever use this mat would enjoy my letter during coffee break or tea time.
You had me at hello. It was such a brilliant expression. No one would get tired of hearing it or say it. 🙂
Most of my printed labels are from my family from Korea. But if you earch Etsy shop, (key word “cotton printed labels”) you must find variety of collections.
I try to use opposite color when I make things. That way I can use both side depends on my feelings. 🙂
This dessert mat is going to be my hubbys. Who else I could give? 😉
Print out my illustration on a plain white paper.
Cut linen as letter size add 1/4inch seams. Arrange fabric scraps.
Cut quilt batting a bit bigger size of the linen. Place it under the linen and zigzag stitch the fabric pieces.
Using the coffee illustration as template, draw on the base fabric. If you want to add color like me, draw a tea cup on different color of fabric pieces.
Glue the fabric pieces on the linen using school stick glue or fabric glue.
Draw the line using erasable pen.
Sew with dark color thread next.
Place the lining on top of the linen, facing right side together, sew all the way, leave a hole. If you want to add a label, place between the linen and lining.
Take inside out, hand stitch the hole, sew again.
Thanks for finding me.
