I used to store all the leftover laces in a ziplock bag. How about you? Are you one of those people who alway organize their sewing supplies neat and pretty?

If you are, I want to be your friend right away. 🙂

Today I want to share my vintage woodspool makeover idea.

These are all things I bought at Michaels craft store on a black Friday sale.

You’ll need 2 colors of Martha Stewart paints and cheap woodspools.

First, rub a woodspool with Antique Wax color using a cloth.

Let it dry and then apply lighter color paint (mine is called Smoke) roughly, not completely.

At last, I touched a very dark colored ink on the edge of the wood spool. It’s optional.

If you have a spool lable stamp, color it like I did.

I stamped the image on a brown paper and colored with a bit of blue and orange copic markers. Then rubbed it with a dark color using a sponge. Cut it out and wrinkle it so it looks old.

Finally, apply Mod podge all over the spool to coat and tada!~

My 8 years old daughter looked at me and said,

“Mommy, you are lieing.”

Well, if you don’t have budget to purchase original vintage woodspool, this idea is very cute, I believe. 😉

I hope my photo inspire you a bit and thank you for stopping by.

Hi Erin, Thank you for your sweet comments.

  2. Absolutely love your new “vintage” wooden spools! Thank you for the tutorial. I have to admit, I love organising my sewing supplies. I am using wooden spools for ribbons, lace but they look too new. So now I have a new project on my list. Thank you! 🙂

  3. That’s such a fun idea! Didn’t even know there was such a thing as distressed ink. I roll my ribbons and put them in a clear jar. Semi-organized. I cleaned up my sewing/dining area for guests visiting and now I can’t find anything.
